Bidar : Chapter 2

STAGE 3

After getting familiarized with the behaviour, habit patterns and understanding of the locals towards their resources, Bidar College of Horticulture was paid a visit to explore the effects and lengths of technological intervention on natural resources.

Upon visitation, special attention was paid towards recycling methods they had themselves adopted or wished to adopt. The different types of plastic they use, methods, utilization and along with their durability, were discussed.

While in conversations with them regarding their research and methods of collecting of data, they showed interest a self-watering plant system I had worked on earlier.

Further discussions led to ideating towards developing a system for the procurement of their vegetation data from the fields in a cost and human resources' efficient manner. A self sustaining system which takes care of watering the plants and at the same time reduces the efforts of the farmers who engage in torturous climatic conditions to collect data from the field.

Hence came the title, 'The Plant Nanny' for this project.

HOVER ON THE 3D MODEL FOR DETAILS

Diagram explained.jpg

3 cups

Blueberries

SPRINKLER

Attached in the middle that automatically turns on based on the readings from the soil moisture sensors

2 tbsp.

Salt

SIM CARD MODULE

Hidden under the solar panel, this module will send messages of the readings from the sensors

SONAL PANEL

To power the circuit utilising clean and renewable energy

SOIL MOISTURE SENSORS

Stuck into the ground depending on the depth where water retensity needs to measured for accurate results

Once the costing and the 3Ds were approved, work started on the building the circuit with the sensors to see its functionality. Using processing coding language and an arduino setup, the readings came out smoothly and accurately

SETUP WITH SENSORS AND THE PUMP

Coding for activation of pump

Coding for convering the readings from the soil moisture sensor to celsius

After this initial trial with the circuit was a success, a prototype with the solar panel and the sim card reader was started. For the sprinkler, I thought it best to recycle a plastic bottle.
